Jay Conyers

Vice President, Programs Candelen

What motivates you?

The opportunity to help people. As a Texan, I used to have a truck and was always the first to volunteer to help someone move, pick up something big, help with home projects, etc. Now truckless, I help friends and neighbors when I can, but being part of the Candelen team gives me an opportunity to help many more people, especially those in need.

What did you want to be when you grew up?

I’m actually still trying to figure out what I want to be when I grow up. But as a kid, I wanted to be a doctor after watching a few seasons of St. Elsewhere, a TV show from the 80’s about physicians at a training hospital in Boston. It really humanized doctors and their ability to help people. Maybe it’s why I eventually found my way to nonprofit work.
